Ces mots italiens signifient temps et espace et font référence au premier manifeste futuriste écrit en 1909 par Filippo Tomasso Marinetti dans lequel il déclare : « le Temps et l’Espace sont morts hier », marquant ainsi le début de l’ère de la vitesse. /

These Italian words mean time and space and refer to the first futurist manifesto written in 1909 by Filippo Tomasso Marinetti in which he declares: “Time and Space died yesterday” implying that the era of speed had begun.

Bouleversement (traductions)

En prenant le mot français bouleversement comme point de départ, chacune des traductions italiennes proposées dans un dictionnaire bilingue ont été inscrites. Pour chacun de ces termes, toutes les traductions françaises ont ensuite été inscrites. Cet aller-retour — en principe infini — a été maintes fois répété. /

Starting with the French word bouleversement (disruption, changes, upheaval…), every Italian translation that appears in a bilingual dictionary has been written down. Then, every French translations for each of these Italian words were inscribed, etc.

Ce sont les premiers mots du premier manifeste futuriste. Les lettres en pointillées et la forme du texte rappellent les lampes de métal perforé nord-africaines auxquelles l’auteur italien (né en Égypte) réfère dans le manifeste. Elles rappellent aussi les étoiles et les ampoules électriques, des éléments importants de l’imaginaire futuriste. /

“We have stayed up all night, my friends and I”. These are the first words of the first futurist manifesto. The letters made of dots and the shape of the text refer to north African hanging lamps made of perforated metal which the Italian author (born in Egypt) refers to in the manifesto. They also recall stars and electric bulbs, important elements in the futurist imagery.

Ces quatre citations sont issues de deux manifestes futuristes : Le manifeste du futurisme, 1909, de Marinetti et Le manifeste futuriste de l’art mécanique, 1922, de Ivo Pannagi et Vinico Paladini.

These four quotations are taken from two futurist manifestos: The Futurist Manifesto, 1909, by Marinetti and Manifesto of Futurist Mechanical Art, from Ivo Pannagi et Vinico Paladini.

Translations:

Lampes : Marinetti / Mussolini (détail)

La tête de Benito Mussolini est une reproduction en verre soufflé de Testa di Mussolini (Profilo continuo) — la tête de Mussolini (profil continu) réalisée par Renato Bertelli en 1933. La même idée a été reprise pour réaliser celle de Marinetti. La tête de Mussolini est suspendue en référence à l’exposition de son cadavre à Milan en 1945. Les liens entre le fondateur du futurisme et le fondateur du fascisme sont plutôt complexes et ambigus. /

The head of Benito Mussolini is a reproduction made in blown glass of Renato Bertelli’s Testa di Mussolini (Profilo continuo)—Mussolini’s Head (continuous profile), made in 1933. The same idea was applied with Marinetti’s head. The Duce’s head is placed upside down in reference to the hanging of his dead body in Milan in 1945. The links between the founder of futurism and the founder of fascism are complex and ambiguous.
